Rockerfellas Night Spot was once again the venue for our chosen act this week. The Glam Rock Experience is a show which as you expect brings back the magic era of Seventies Glam Rock music in a one hour long tribute show bringing together lots of the artistes of that epoch including The Sweet, Mud, Slade, Suzi Quatro, The Bay City Rollers and Joan Jett.
The show combines the talents of local performers Charlene, Stevie B, Emma Louise and Chunky B. The idea was hit upon around a year ago and took lots of planning with music and continuity but what took most of the time was getting the authentic stage clothes sorted.
The show itself gets underway with a tongue in cheek opening featuring the seventies Top of the Pops signature tune, Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love with voice over. The four guys appear on stage and go straight into Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit in the Sky which immediately puts the audience into fun mode. From there the group go into a pot-pouri of songs which include Slade’s Cum on Feel the Noize, Suzi Quatro’s Devil Gate Drive, a Bay City Rollers Medley and Marc Bolan & T Rex’s 20th Century Boy.
This was an era in which I grew up so it was no surprise to me I knew all the material on offer and it made me smile as memories came flooding back.
During the show there were a few costume changes, much interaction including a spot where the audience where divided into 2 halves to see who could make the most noise and also an instance where the two male singers had a walk around the floor in an effort to get everyone involved.
The best way to describe this show is fun as really that’s all the early seventies music was. A special mention must be made to the sound and lighting guy who enhanced the show throughout.
I went away from the gig happy and I thought the Band achieved their aim of entertaining the crowd. I am now looking forward to seeing their Glam Rock Christmas show in December proved a huge success last year.
If you remember the days of lots of make up, glitter and good times then get yourself to Rockerfellas on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday at 23.00 and wear those flares.
