The Cheroot Profile

Born in Cambuslang, Scotland Henderson Gibson (Cheroot) moved to Blackburn in Lancashire when he was 12. At the tender age of 16 he became the lead singer in a rock band singing around the local pubs. Moving to Spain when he was 21 Cheroot entertained the American Forces for a while. He returned to the UK and lived in London where he formed a successful rock band called Shabby Tiger. They signed a recording deal with RCA and had a number of hits throughout Europe, attaining the No.1 spot in Germany, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, South Africa and Australia.

Cheroot then started working closely with Billy Ocean on all his hits prior to Billy’s move to America. He has also worked with many other artists including Hall and Oates.

Cheroot as an act originated as a duo but Hendy realised very early on that he wanted a solo career, he retained the name Cheroot as this was already established. Arriving in Benidorm he worked at the original Steptoe’s for 6 years and can now be seen at most of the top Benidorm entertainment venues.

Regarded as one of the more experienced acts in town, Cheroot falls into the category of one of Benidorm’s veterans. Currently he can be seen at Morgan’s Tavern, Chaplin’s, Plaza, Whitehorse, Buddies and UK Bar.
