You may remember we featured the Intimate Bar a few weeks ago but since then new owners have taken over and given it a whole new lease of life. Robert Lester and Ian Carline are no strangers to Benidorm and have lived here on and off for the past 10 years and have made many friends both with locals and holiday makers. Ian hails from West Lothian in Scotland in fact, just a stone’s throw from singing star Susan Boyle, while Robert comes from Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire.. Both are accomplished singers and entertainers and can put on a good show to everyone’s enjoyment. You will be treated to a range of songs from the shows together with sing-a-longmedleys. They purchased the Intimate Bar in December and are hoping to bring back the friendliness and fun of days gone by.
I took a stroll into the Old Town and called into the Intimate Bar situated just off the walking street on C/ La Palma. The Bar has been in existence in excess of 34 years and is currently with only the fourth owner which must be some sort of record in Benidorm.
Nigel puts the spotlight on a comedian who has been in Benidorm for almost 8 years. Mickey Lewys has a brand of comedy which is sure to suit all tastes. It is filled with madcap humour together with a few impressions which is a certain audience pleaser. I caught his show at the Tower Lounge on Calle Gerona and thoroughly enjoyed what I was seeing. Although Mickey is now a comedian he started out in show business as a drummer doubling up on keyboards with a rock band before becoming a Butlin’s Redcoat where he worked for several years. He then became the resident compere at the Piazza Cabaret Room in Great Yarmouth. The band Sweet Illusion approached him to work with them on keyboards and this took him to the Middle East and all over Europe. He then went on to become a solo artiste and worked many Holiday Camps in the UK and the Army circuit in Germany for NAAFI. Mickey can be seen every night at Steptoe’s on Calle Lepanto and frequently at the Tower Lounge. Well worth a visit!
