From Julie and Tim

We had seen Chrissie Rock a couple of times previously, at the old Gigolos before it was done up, and also at Morgans.  When we saw her in the first series of Derren Litten’s sitcom on ITV, “Benidorm”, in 2007, we immediately recognised her.  In that first series, she was the Karaoke presenter at the fictitious ‘Neptunes’, (which in actual fact is Morgans).

Chrissie is an absolutely fabulous comedienne.  What is particularly captivating is her facial expressions, and the way that she turns much of her act into a one person comedy sketch.  You can tell that she is no ordinary stand up routine, and looking into her background, you can see why.  She has appeared in several films, Chrissie really is an actress.  You can see why Darren snapped her up for her successful role in “Benidorm”.

She is  a must see, and you will love sixty minutes of that untarnished Liverpool accent.  If you want a reminder of who she is, she was the one who demonstrated the Juicer in the 2008 “Benidorm” series.

CHRISSIE ROCK in Benidorm
From Julie and Tim

We first saw Rikki Stevens at Wheeltappers.  This is a very good club, and we kick ourselves for not going there more often.  Our problem is that we always stay at the other end of Levante, and pass so many other clubs and bars on the way, that we find ourselves drawn to ‘ambush a star’ before we get to the Wheeltappers!

Back to Rikki.  We saw him recently at the UK Club, (under the Presidente Hotel).  What a fabulous place this is, an ideal setting for an established star like Rikki Stevens.  A really outstanding stand up routine, and you know he could go on all night, a wealth of good material.  Rikki makes you feel like he is a next door neighbour, an uncle, or a brother, a genuinely nice bloke, as we found out when we chatted to him after the act.

His act is full of surprises, and when you think there is nothing else, out comes Fred the monkey.  So, not just a comedian, but a ventriloquist as well.  We remembered Fred from the Wheeltappers a few years ago.  Unfortunately, the Fred we saw then has since gone to the banana grove in the sky, but the new Fred was the spitting image, and did all the things the old Fred had done, like playing the harmonica like Stevie Wonder, and spitting at the audience, (and I think he might have learned some of his predecessors jokes as well)!
