Westlife (Benidorm Tribute)
A Review by Nigel Turner
WESTLIFE TRIBUTE
Benidorm
Will, Dave, Johnny & Liam have been working together as Westlife for almost a year and have been packing the crowds in night after night. The act itself took around three months of hard work before it was ready for the first public performance. It was an instant hit with the holiday makers who return to see the show. Looking round the audience it was clear to see this is a show for all ages from 16 – 60 although I have to say it is predominantly female.
The band are from different backgrounds and nationalities, Will hails from Cuba and is a multi-instrumentalist playing violin, keyboards, saxophone in addition to writing his own songs and being one half of the duo Words & Music. Dave makes up the other half of Words and Music and is very much the local boy of the group coming from Alicante where he studied religious music together with playing the piano. Liam is the only Irish member who attended stage school before becoming an entertainments manager in addition to playing piano and working as a DJ. Johnny who was also at stage school informed me rather tongue in cheek that he plays a mean triangle!
As the lads got ready, the atmosphere in Morgan’s was almost electric in anticipation which escalated into screams and cheering as the Band took the Stage.  They went through all the hits of Westlife including When You’re Looking like That, World of our Own and Bop Bop Baby all of which were well received by a much hyped up crowd.
The show is a must for anyone into the music of Westlife in fact on Friday 22nd August they boys will have been at Morgan’s Tavern exactly one year and as such are doing a special one and a half hour show to celebrate.
Recently, the venue was visited by the tour manager of Westlife in addition to the Mother and Grandmother of Nick from Westlife and all were very impressed.
You can see this excellent tribute every night at 01.00 as sometimes the Band’s understudy Ashley stands in to enable the lads to get a well earned night off.
After hearing lots of positive reports as I go about my business visiting the venues which go to make up the nightlife of Benidorm, one name that has cropped up time and time again is the nightly tribute to Westlife which takes place at 01.00 seven evenings a week at Morgan’s Tavern situated on Calle Gerona. So this week’s focus is dedicated to the four guys who make up the tribute to the Irish Boy Band.
