His early days of showbusiness was as front man for Cy Tucker and the Flies who had success in the pop charts with My Prayer and What’s the Matter with You Baby during the sixties. After 10 years as semi-pro and 4 years of being professional Davy decided to turn to being a solo act. He toured the length and breadth of Britain playing in clubs and institutes and did many summer seasons in such places as Jersey, Blackpool, South Wales, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. It was the demise of the Working Men’s Clubs which finally brought Davy to the Costa Blanca and on speaking with him he still is very passionate about the clubs where he worked in the early days.
Davy moved to Benidorm around 11 years ago and has been resident at the Town for the past five.
His show was a mixture of quickfire gags and impressions which the audience seemed to love. I witnessed him ‘take off’ Norman Wisdom, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitcham Steptoe and son to name but a few.
Davy is on at the Town Club 7 nights a week at 10.00 and is one not to be missed.
My patrol around Benidorm this week took me to the Town Club on Av Almeria to watch comic/impressionist Davy Royal ply his trade to a full house consisting mainly of holiday makers.
Davy is from Liverpool as his scouse drawl indicates and together with his caveman costume, which he wears throughout the show, makes him kind of unique.
