Crissy Rock has been living permanently in the area for the past four years but prior to that came over a couple times a year for about six weeks at a time to entertain. In fact it was at the end of one of her stints here that when she was travelling back to the airport, she realised she just didn’t want to go back so she turned the car around and made her home here on the Costa Blanca.
Her career in show business has been very successful as well as being varied. Not only is Crissy a top notch performer as a comedienne she has a string of television shows she has appeared in including Trial and Retribution, The Commander and of course Benidorm in which she plays Janie York. In addition to all this she has appeared on stage in Pantomime and Plays on numerous occasions.
I caught up with her just prior to her going on stage where she was sharing a drink with comedy actress Sheridan Smith from the TV series Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and found her very relaxed and easy to talk with.
I was surprised to find out that apart from her grandchildren who she misses very much but are frequently over here visiting, the only thing she really pines for in the UK is ASDA!
Since moving here she says she has a lovely circle of friends and is always pleased to see familiar faces who visit her during her shows which she performs 7 nights at week at the UK Cabaret Club situated on Avenida Fillipinas at 23.15. The show itself comprises of non-stop laughter and is packed to capacity most nights. If your taste in humour is a little on the risqué side then this is for you as she pulls no punches in what she has to say. Off stage she is both witty and relaxed and has asked me to say if anyone wishes to chat with her at any time she can usually be found in Scotties Bar on Calle Lepanto from about 22.00 where she goes for time out before becoming the Crissy everyone loves on stage.
For this week we highlight someone who is now not only a very funny comedienne but also, since the ITV series ‘Benidorm’ hit our television screen, has become somewhat of a tourist attraction.
